Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and implement high-quality lessons based on the Cambridge Lower Secondary and IGCSE Geography syllabuses.
  • Thematic Teaching: Effectively teach the three main themes:
  • Population and Settlement
  • The Natural Environment (Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Rivers, Coasts, Weather, and Climate)
  • Economic Development (Agriculture, Industry, Tourism, and Energy)
  • Geographical Skills: Train students in map reading (OS maps), data interpretation, and the use of GIS (Geographic Information Systems).
  • Fieldwork Leadership: Design and lead mandatory Geographical Enquiry (Paper 4) fieldwork projects, guiding students through data collection, analysis, and evaluation.
  • Exam Preparation: Expertly prepare students for Paper 1 (Geographical Themes), Paper 2 (Geographical Skills), and Paper 4 (Alternative to Coursework).
  • Global Perspectives: Encourage students to think critically about global issues such as climate change, sustainability, and urban development.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Certification: Valid teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • Experience: Proven experience teaching the Cambridge IGCSE Geography curriculum with a strong track record of student results.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in interpreting complex geographical data, satellite imagery, and statistical diagrams.
  • Language Proficiency: Near-native English proficiency (Essential for teaching the specific terminology and essay-writing skills required for IGCSE). Native or near-native English proficiency (Minimum B2-C1 level or IELTS 6.5+).

Pedagogical Competencies

  • Ability to use "Case Studies" effectively to bring real-world examples (e.g., an LEDC population policy or a specific volcanic eruption) into the classroom.
  • Strong classroom management and the ability to inspire curiosity about the world.
  • Commitment to inquiry-based learning and student-centered pedagogy.
