Head of Legal Department and Compliance Agenda

Role overview: 

• We are looking for a Head of Legal Department who will lead the legal and compliance agenda for Carlsberg Azerbaijan, ensuring strong legal and compliance support to the business while acting as a practical, trusted advisor to the Managing Director and leadership team.

What You'll be doing:

• Provide day-to-day legal support across commercial, procurement, sales, distribution and operational matters;
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts while identifying, clearly communicating and mitigating legal risks;
• Support dispute resolution and litigation, working with external legal counsel when required;
• Advise on corporate legal matters and ensure appropriate governance and legal documentation;
• Lead and support compliance priorities, including anti-bribery and anti-corruption, competition law, data protection and trade sanctions;
• Partner closely with regional and Group Legal teams, ensuring the timely and transparent escalation of relevant risks and cases;
• Lead and coordinate the local legal team while remaining personally involved in key legal matters.

What we’re looking for:

• A university degree in Law and strong knowledge of Azerbaijani legislation and regulatory requirements;
• At least 5 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience, supported by strong judgement, maturity and commercial awareness;

Skills:

• Solid in-house legal experience gained within an FMCG, multinational, commercial or similarly fast-paced business environment; previous law firm experience would be a strong advantage;
• Practical experience in contract review and negotiation, procurement, sales-related legal matters and dispute resolution;
• Good understanding of key compliance areas;
• Experience in the alcohol, beverage or soft-drinks industry would be an advantage;
• Fluency in Azerbaijani and a good working command of English.
