Head of the Metal Construction Drawings Department

Minimum Requirements:

• Act as Team Leader for the Structural Team in the Drawing Office.
• Technically review produced shop drawings and verify completeness as per client’s standards/specifications.
• Ensure deliverables comply with relevant procedures and safety regulations.
• Prepare weekly performance and progress reports.
• Liaise with the structural construction team.
• Be responsible for the efficient and economic delivery of the team of engineers and technicians within projects, including remote-based teams.
• Identify and effectively meet the requirements and expectations of the client.
• Organize and prioritize time and tasks to enable the simultaneous running of several projects.
• Motivate other members of the team by providing coaching, training, and mentoring.
• Manage resources to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Help to identify business opportunities.
• Be familiar with the company’s health and safety policies.
• Plan, organize, and prioritize the team’s workload to meet project milestones and deadlines effectively.
• Monitor and enforce adherence to quality assurance and quality control procedures within the structural drawing office.
• Manage resources, including manpower allocation and training needs, for continuous team development.
• Facilitate technical coordination meetings and resolve multidisciplinary design conflicts proactively.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and third-party reviewers to address technical queries and incorporate feedback.
• Review and implement updates on design codes, standards, and company procedures within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Good understanding of fabrication/construction techniques at fabricators’ facilities.
• Knowledge of international codes and standards such as API, BS, GOST, and EEMUA.
• Advanced knowledge of 2D drafting packages, particularly AutoCAD.
• Competent in using TEKLA, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
• Good organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well under pressure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to make decisions, act on own initiative, and operate in a proactive way.
• Excellent report-writing skills, with experience in making presentations and attending meetings with clients.
• Degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Advanced English communication skills.
• Lead, coordinate, and supervise the daily activities of the structural drawing office team to ensure project deliverables are met on time and to the required quality standards.
• Allocate drafting and modeling tasks, monitor progress, and ensure compliance with project schedules, design specifications, and client requirements.
• Review and check detailed fabrication drawings, general arrangement drawings, and material take-offs prepared by the team to verify accuracy and adherence to codes, standards, and project requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to draughtsmen and junior designers, supporting their development and ensuring best drafting practices are applied.
• Liaise closely with structural engineers, fabrication teams, and project management to resolve design and detailing issues during different project phases.
• Manage and control drawing office documentation, including revision control, drawing registers, and filing systems, ensuring compliance with document management procedures.
• Participate in design review meetings, provide input on constructability, and proactively identify and address potential design and fabrication challenges.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations and reports to project teams and clients when required.
